Lead Carpenter

Sticks & Stones is a growing residential contractor working across Havre and the Hi-Line: roofing, siding, windows and doors, decks, concrete flatwork, storm damage repair, and kitchen, bath and basement remodels. We do work we’d put our name on. We’re hiring our first lead carpenter to run jobs and help build the crew from here.

This is a ground-floor role. You’d be the first hire, the one running the site day to day, and the standard the next hires are measured against. If you take pride in tight work and want a real hand in how a company grows, read on.

What you’ll do

• Run remodeling and exterior jobs day to day: framing, drywall, trim and doors, cabinets, tile and flooring, decks, siding, and roofing. The full residential scope.
• Read plans and scopes, order your own materials, and keep a job moving on schedule.
• Set the pace and the quality bar on site. Keep the work clean, safe, and on spec.
• Talk to homeowners like a professional. You’re the face of the company on the job.
• Help train and direct helpers and subs as the crew grows.

What success looks like in the first year

• Jobs you run finish on time, on budget, and pass the final walkthrough without a punch list a mile long.
• Homeowners ask for you by name.
• You take a job from the first day to the final walkthrough, and it comes out right.

What we’re looking for

• Five or more years of carpentry and remodeling experience across several trades. Someone who can frame a wall Monday and hang a door Friday.
• A valid driver’s license and a record clean enough to drive to job sites.
• Reliability above all. You show up, on time, ready to work.
• Sound judgment. You catch problems before they cost money and speak up early.
• Comfortable on ladders and roofs, able to lift 50 pounds and more, and up for physical work in Montana weather.

Nice to have

• Roofing, concrete flatwork, or deck-building depth.
• Storm damage repair experience. Xactimate familiarity is a plus.
• OSHA 10 and current first aid and CPR.

Pay and terms

• $30 to $34 an hour, depending on experience. W-2, overtime at time and a half.
• Full-time, year-round work. Tools are provided.
• A gym membership here in Havre, on us.
• Bonuses: when a job you run comes in under budget, the crew splits part of the savings. There’s a spring bonus too, for everyone on the crew come April 1. Both are in writing with your offer.
